Maria Gomez was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors on January 1, 2023, and sequentially Secretary of the Schattner Foundation. She is the Founder and former CEO of Mary’s Center a Federally Qualified Health Center in the DC Region. The organization under Maria’s leadership received their first grant from the Schattner Foundation to successfully expand its dental program. After Maria’s retirement, she was honored to be asked to join the foundation because she believed in the foundation’s commitment to helping impactful organizations grow and their ability to rapidly respond to urgent needs both locally and abroad.
Ian Schattner
Ian Schattner is the great-nephew of the founder, Dr. Robert I. Schattner, and the son of former board member Robert T. Schattner. Following his father’s passing in 2025, Ian was honored to continue the family’s legacy of service by succeeding his father on the board of the Schattner Foundation.
Ian graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in history and received his Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. He is a practicing attorney based in New York.
Growing up, Ian witnessed the meaningful impact of Dr. Schattner’s donations and was lucky enough to be a direct beneficiary of Dr. Schattner’s wisdom, anecdotes, and humor. He is committed to honoring Dr. Schattner’s philanthropic vision and ensuring that the foundation continues making a difference in the lives and organizations it supports. Ian considers it an honor to carry forward Dr. Schattner’s legacy alongside the other members of the board.
Robert H. Sievers
Robert Sievers obtained a CPA and worked in Public Accounting for several years and then entered the private sector working in financial positions for numerous Companies in a variety of industries. Robert Sievers first met Dr. Schattner in 1995 when he was hired as a Controller for the Sporicidin Company. In 2008 when Dr. Schattner sold Sporicidin, Robert became his accountant, financial advisor, and friend until he died in 2017. Dr Schattner would jokingly refer to him as his “bookie”
Sidney Bresler
Sidney Bresler and his family were lifelong friends with Dr. Schattner-affectionately called “Dr. Bob” and his beloved wife Kay. Over time, Sid became Dr. Bob’s close personal confidant assisting him in developing a philanthropic strategy, vetting charitable opportunities, and ensuring that his charitable wishes were fulfilled. Before his passing, Dr. Bob expressed his wish that Sidney be named the Chairman and President of the Robert I. Schattner Foundation (RIS). In conjunction with the other members of the board, Sid ensures that the philanthropic endeavors undertaken by RIS keep Dr. Bob’s spirit alive by making a difference in the communities served. Before becoming Chairman of RIS, Sidney practiced law and subsequently ran his family’s real estate company.
